Beyond 18th & Vine explores the little known enclaves and business ventures of African Americans outside of the Historic 18th and Vine area in Kansas City. Pockets of thriving African American communities coexisted alongside their white counterparts in Westport, Independence and Liberty Missouri. African Americans, such as Sam Shepard, built the first court house in Independence. He and others like him such as Emily Fisher were indispensable forces that fostered the sustainability of the particular communities they were a part of. Erik Stafford www.kansascitytourcompany.com will lead this engaging and impactful discussion exploring the obscure areas of our history.
